New Eye-dea

In my Social Psychology textbook, I read something about communications through the eyes. It turns out that, we communicate so much daily with our eyes and they are so many meanings to every little gesture we make with our eyes. Maybe I’m just a little slow at discovering this but since I discovered it, I find it extremely interesting. I was kind of wide eyed when I read it. It says in the book that if we are excited, our pupils actually dilate and probably when you are giving someone the steely stare, your pupils will shrink. They also said that avoiding eye contact doesn’t always mean that you don’t like a person. I’m sure you realize, couples usually kiss with their eyes close. But maybe this is just so they are not staring directly at the zit on their partner’s forehead, which can be a really big turn off if you ask me. And looking at someone for a long period of time does not always mean adoration. For example, two ah bengs from different clans are glaring at each other. This does not mean they are in love or are admiring the golden hair the other has. Even if one is admiring the other’s golden hair, it usually ends in a fight because it is unethical to an ah beng for someone to stare at them, especially un-chio girls and other boys.

Then again, I started wondering, is this all the same for a blind person? Can their pupils actually enlarge and shrink? I have not been face to face with a blind person before, so now I’m wondering, do blind people roll their eyes when they are being sarcastic? Is it possible to see a blind person’s expression through their eyes? In movies, blind people are often portrayed as glassy eyed people. They only look into the distance and don’t seem to be looking at anything at all. There is never much focus on their eye and expression. So it would be a challenge for me to go find out about this.
